Mass. Legislators Decide to Repeal Tech Tax

Massachusetts Senate President Therese Murray and Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo recently announced their intention to propose a repeal of the recent “tech tax” that went into effect in July of this year. This move comes in response to massive outcry and lobbying efforts by the tech industry, and to Governor Deval Patrick’s change in position on the issue after he announced his opposition to the tax and efforts to find a new source of income to replace it. State Senator Murray and State Rep. DeLeo agreed with the tax’s opponents that the tax, as written, is much broader than intended, as it is projected to net far more than the $161 million the tax was budgeted to bring in.
