Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do I/we get during an initial consultation?

During an initial consultation you will have your questions answered. You will gain an understanding of the legal issues you and your business are facing and and understanding of the options available to you and your business and a plan for moving forward. If you and your business decide to retain First Venture Legal, we will work with you to implement that plan.

For example, by the end of an initial consultation for an entity formation matter, you will understand the advantages and disadvantages to entity formation, the various options for entity formation, the advantages and disadvantages of each option, the various options for customization of each option, and which entities may be most preferable for your business, and an understanding of the procedure and plan for legally establishing a business entity.

2. What if I/we don’t know what to say or ask during an initial consultation?

Before an initial consultation, I can send you a list of issues for you to consider so that you have decided what your priorities and desires are before the meeting so that we may have an informed and productive discussion.

If you’re just looking for a guide of issues you should be considering when legally forming you business, go to the Contact Us page, send us your email and phone number and tell us in the Comments section that you want the Issues to Consider in Entity Selection and Formation guide, and we’ll send it to you free of charge, no need to set up a consultation! We hope that once you’ve considered the questions presented in the guide and are ready to get started on your venture, you’ll give us a call and give us the opportunity to work with you.

3. What if I/we have a matter not listed on your Areas of Practice?

Contact us! I will be happy to discuss any legal matter your business has and work to help you resolve it.

4. Do you do everything for a flat fee?

First Venture Legal handles most matters for a flat fee; however, as a general rule litigation matters are not handled with a flat fee, but an hourly rate. The reason litigation matters are not handled with a flat fee is due to the unpredictable nature and timeline of litigation — a claim can be settled in a month, or take years to get through trial and final judgment — therefore, it is difficult to accurately or fairly assest a flat fee. However, First Venture Legal will work with you during litigation matters to monitor and control legal costs and help you make decisions about the legal process.
